Collection: Impressionism
Impressionism was a 19th-century art movement that broke from academic tradition by focusing on the fleeting effects of light, atmosphere, and everyday life. Artists painted outdoors (en plein air) to capture natural light and movement, using quick brushstrokes and vibrant colour. Rather than detailed realism, Impressionism emphasised perception and sensation, portraying scenes of modern life and landscapes. The movement marked a major shift toward modern art, paving the way for Post-Impressionism and Expressionism.
